A Honeypot is a large dark box hidden well below an area. Vechs uses these to control the amount of mobs that spawn in an area naturally. If these areas were left filled, players could be overwhelmed. In his Inferno Mines Developer Commentary, he noted how the early Skylight areas utilized Honeypots to make them virtually harmless.
